Applications - Clarification

Clarifiers (sedimentation tanks) are designed to promote the separation of solids from liquids. The tanks are usually fitted with scraper mechanisms to remove the settled solids from the tank floor.

Sedimentation tank /clarifier scraper mechanisms may take different forms depending on whether the mechanisms are for primary, secondary or tertiary treatment.

In circular tanks the equipment may be of the peripheral drive type, fixed bridge or fixed half bridge ( cage drive) varieties.

In rectangular tanks the mechanism may be of the chain and flight type or have scrapers and scum  removal equipment suspended from a travelling bridge.

The reason for using any type or shape of sedimentation tank is to provide conditions which promote the separation of entrained solids from the liquid phase. The scraper mechanisms purpose is to collect the settled solids for removal from the tank by pumping.

To be able to make an equipment recommendation best suited to your sitesrequirements, we need the following data:

  • Daily flow
  • Inlet Pipe Size
  • Tank diameter and depth
  • Tank type i.e. steel or concrete
  • Preferred materials of construction of the scraper mechanism and accessories
  • Location of the site.

Examples and further information are shown in section entitled Clarifiers
